- A study of the Equatorial Guinea Atlantic
Margin based on new analytical data from the Rio Mun Basin as well as
Ministry archive seismic and well data.
- The new data includes AFTA, vitrinite
reflectance, geochemical and biostratigraphical analyses of samples
collected during Rio Muni fieldwork and from five exploration wells.
- The new analyses provide a modern data
set for assesment of the hydrocarbon system, and combined with the historical
data,
Key elements are available in ArcView (GIS) format
NEW DATA ACQUIRED FOR THIS STUDY
- AFTA® (Geotrack International) - 34 Offshore & 10 Onshore
Samples
- VR - 83
Offshore & 7 Onshore Samples
- Geochemistry -
83 Offshore & 6 Onshore Samples
SCOPE OF STUDY
- Review of Regional Geology of Eastern Gulf of Guinea Atlantic Margin
- Tectono-stratigraphic framework refined to help define key structural episodes and associated
deep water clastic sedimentation
- Structural Evolution based on historical seismic data with presentation of new structural
models
- Source Rock Evaluation of identified pre and post-salt source-prone intervals
- Thermal History Reconstruction and Maturity
Development using AFTA / VR analysis and
basin modelling for source maturity and hydrocarbon generation history
- Petroleum Potential and Play Analysis to predict basin-wide distribution of play fairways

Lacustrine Basin Research Ltd
have undertaken a detailed stratigraphic revision of the Rio Basin.
The study is based on a complete re-analysis of samples from the
five historical offshore wells.
A detailed biostratigraphic
examination of the Cretaceous and Tertiary succession has provided
more precise data relevant to the timing of sediment deposition,
erosion and the significant changes in environments through time.
It has been possible to distinguish disconnected Aptian basins and
make environmental observations concerning the Aptian Salt horizons.
Objectives
- Provide detailed dating of
the sedimentary section.
- Interpret the depositio
Deliverables
- Fully integrated and illustrated
report providing revised dating of succession and new environmental
interpretations.
- Well summary logs listings
ages, biostratigraphic tops, lithostratigraphic and environmental
data.
- Well correlation chart and
well seismic location figures.
- Faunal and floral species
range charts.
- Comparison of Rio Muni data
with that of the Gabon, Sergipe, Alagõas and Araripe Basins.
